1 Steel beam supporting residential floor

This is a typical example where a steel beam is required to support a residential floor.

A single UDL (Uniform Distributed Load) was entered into the calculator:

'Residential Floor'

Live: 40 psf, Dead: 15 psf

A steel beam (W8X12) 12 feet long was selected.

The calculator produced a report which shows the bending, shear and deflection for the beam are all within safe limits.
